Dismissing some myths about CSR
We’re not going to design you a CSR strategy that hammers your financial bottom line or makes you less competitive. Quite the contrary; an effective CSR strategy can sometimes reduce your costs and improve competitiveness as well as providing the range of additional benefits CSR brings.
Consumers are growing increasingly sophisticated in their understanding of CSR and they are coming to expect it in the market place. Demonstrating an effective and robust CSR strategy can of course contribute to marketing and provide a strong competitive advantage but it needs to be matched by an effective programme that benefits all aspects of your business.
Yes it can; it’s just a bit more complex, with social, environmental and economic factors to take into account and both ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ outcomes to measure. But you can measure it, and we can design a process for you to do that. In some cases, clients that we work with are already implementing CSR but need a way to measure it. In addition to checking that you are making the best of your existing CSR programme, we can design you a tailored process to measure the impacts you are making, which you can continue to use long after our work with you ends.
This is of course a good thing to do, and we don’t want to discourage it, but it isn’t necessarily CSR. It might be one aspect of it, but it needs to be done strategically to maximise your business benefit, with the added bonus of enriching the communities in which you work perhaps. Like any other good business decision, developing, adopting and implementing a CSR strategy should benefit your business.
Yes you do; there will come a time when you can’t afford not to. You may be doing CSR already and not realise it, and you may be surprised how much you can do with relatively minor changes to your business practices. Also, it can save you resources in the longer term.
Sponsorship might form a part of your CSR, but just because you sponsor events, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is CSR. You get a commercial advantage from sponsorship (nothing wrong with that!) but it could be like any other advertising relationship; CSR is more than that and we will show you how much more it can be.
CSR can make you more competitive; you should view it as a central part of your business thinking, not an add-on. Running a business requires investments to be made in developing the various aspects of your company; those investments might be time and/or money. CSR is no different.
All businesses have to change and adapt to meet changing market needs; a well-tailored CSR strategy will help you do this effectively. We will help you integrate your CSR strategy, identify the resource implications and devise a phased plan for implementation so that the change is managed and appropriately resourced. As with all business decisions, this will maximise its effectiveness for you and your business.
CSR might not result in your spending any additional time or money externally (although it can). If you are going to spend time and money you need to be confident that it meets your business drivers; we can help you develop measures to ensure that your investments of time and money (internally and externally) are effective in developing your business.
You don’t need to be. This is one of the main reasons we started Trilein; so many CSR consultancies can’t provide the regeneration expertise to complement their business knowledge. We can; we have been there, done it and literally worn the t-shirt! We can show you what to look for, how to look for it and how best to act on it. We will work with you to provide you with the necessary skills to further your own business interests by developing your core skills set to include CSR as an integral aspect of your business thinking, and not just as an add-on.
Absolutely not; every organisation should consider it. As a public or voluntary (or third) sector body the language of CSR may come easily to you, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you tick all the boxes by default.
